A Guide to Healing Back Pain

Almost everyone suffers from at least some form of back pain at one point in their life, and so it is definitely an issue that everyone should be informed on. There are many different types of back pain that you can suffer from, but the most common is lower back pain, which radiates around the area of the spine at the bottom of the back.

There is also the difference between acute and chronic pain. Acute back pain is defined as pain that lasts for less than six months and this is the kind of back pain that is not considered as being too severe or worrisome. The longer the pain goes on however, the more susceptible it is to other influences and to possibly developing into a serious chronic pain problem.

Chronic back pain is pain in the back that lasts for more than six months, and there are actually at least two different types of chronic pain problems ¨C pain that is caused due to an identifiable pain generator and the chronic pain that has no identifiable pain generator.

Healing Back Pain

Regardless of what specific type of back pain you have, there are methods that you can use to go about healing your back pain. If your back pain is not too serious then it really all depends on your personal opinion and on what you would prefer to do to relieve your pain.

Yoga is one of the most popular options for healing back pain, as it is a mind body exercise system that helps to ease back pain and neck pain and as well improves the back and neck conditions in general, even if you are not suffering from any pain. Most people are tight in key areas of the body that affect the spine, such as in the hips and shoulders. Yoga helps to relieve and relax these areas as well, and thereby releases the tension in the muscles around the back area.

There are even different styles of yoga that you can choose to practice, ranging from gentle to vigorous. If you have particularly severe back pain then the best idea is to start off with an easier form of yoga and focus more on relaxation and meditation techniques first. Hatha yoga is an excellent option, and styles such as Kundalini, Ashtanga and Bikram are a bit more specialized and challenging and should not be a starting style of yoga.

Another option for healing back pain is to use medication, but this can only be prescribed by your doctor and should really only be used if you have chronic back pain.
