Understanding the Connection Between Lipitor and Back Pain

Four out of five adults suffer from at least some sort of back pain at some point in their lives, and in fact, back pain is one of the most common reasons for health care visits and missed work. There are methods of treatment that are available for back pain however, some of which will not only help to relieve the present symptoms but which will also assist in preventing a reoccurrence of the back pain in the future.

Lipitor and Back Pain

When it comes to the treatment of back pain, the particular method of treatment that is going to work best for you will depend on your particular condition and on the severity of your condition. However, there are a few more basic methods of treatment that typically work well on all conditions, one in particular being Lipitor.

Lipitor is a prescription that is quickly becoming one of the most popular medications for back pain worldwide. It is a drug that is classified as being in one of the newest classes of cholesterol-lowering medications known as statins, and these drugs have been widely used for years, the last five in particular.

The drug works by blocking a particular enzyme in the liver that your body uses to make up cholesterol. It reduces low-density lipprotein cholesterol and total cholesterol in the blood, as this in turn helps to prevent heart disease and hardening of the arteries, conditions that can lead to heart attack, stroke, and vascular disease.

Lipitor and back pain is definitely not one of the first methods of treatment that will be recommended by any doctor, as it should only be used if a person is suffering from chronic back pain, meaning pain that has persisted for over six months, and if the condition is particularly painful and causing them problems in their everyday life.

You should not take Lipitor if you have diabetes, underactive thyroid, kidney disease, or a muscle disorder, and you should not drink alcoholic beverages, have a chronic muscular disease, require major surgery, or have a blood disorder.

As with any other prescription drug, there are certain side effects that you may experience as a result of taking the drug and you want to make sure that you discuss all of these with your doctor and are fully understanding on them before starting yourself on the drug. This way you will be educated, know what to expect, and not be shocked if you do begin experiencing any of the possible side effects.
