Helping To Ease The Pain: Back Pain Exercise

As with any part of our body the way to make sure that it is kept performing at optimum level is to keep to a regular health and fitness regime. By not only exercising the muscles in the back but those that support the back (like the stomach and thigh muscles) we can make sure that we alleviate unnecessary back pain. Healthy fish oils will also help to lubricate our joints which, as we get older, can become more inflamed or perceptible to painful problems.

Some Examples Of Back Pain Exercise

Your Physiotherapist or Chiropractor will be able to show you some exercises to help reduce your back pain. A very good back pain exercise is to sit against a wall, place your hands your hips and gently slide your back down the wall. This may sound like an odd thing to do, however in doing this it allows your back and leg muscles to be strengthened and stretched.

In order to strengthen the stomach muscles lie on your back on the floor and place your feet firmly flat on the ground so that your knees are bent and raised toward the ceiling. Lean forward so that your head and shoulders come off the ground and try to touch your knees with your hands. This type of back pain exercise will help strengthen your stomach muscles which help to support your back.

A very simple back pain exercise is to stand with your hands on your hips and make sure your feet are slightly apart. Gently bend backwards, making sure that you do not lean too far so as to cause yourself more pain. When you feel comfortable in this position hold it there for a few seconds and then come back to your normal upright position. You will find these with stretch the muscles in your back which will help to loosen them up.

Back pain exercise will also benefit the rest of your body as it is important to maintain a healthy core. By doing simple and low impact exercise like water aerobics and walking you allow your muscles to work in a way that will not cause further injury to the problem area. It is always very important to allow a professional to give your advice on these sorts of work outs and to show you the correct way of carrying out these exercises.
